The TS 502 “Cubo” Brionvega Radio, closed looks like a glossy orange cube.
Open it up and it hinges apart into two halves: speaker on one side, a black control panel of dials and knobs on the other, with a chrome telescopic antenna rising out of the top.
Designed in 1964 by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper and produced from 1965 by Brionvega in Italy, the TS 502 became one of the defining objects of Italian pop design and is part of the collection at MoMA in New York. It’s as much a sculpture as a radio: the kind of piece that sets the tone of a whole room.
